FOCUS:

This time of year it can be hard to maintain a healthy mindset and find enjoyment in the "daily grind" of teaching.  Our practice can be repetitive, exhausting and emotionally draining.  Add the realty of student's behavior changes this time of year, and it is understandable that "burn out" is real in the month of May.

Self care is a real thing!  You need to take time for yourself and your mental health, especially this time of year.  Here are some tips and ideas for your self-care... commit to practice at least two of these during the final weeks of our school year.
  • Eat healthy, regularly scheduled meals - Don't skip lunch!
  • Hydrate! Here is an interesting article regarding water and mental health: https://bit.ly/2P4UVZ2
  • Exercise - We all know the  benefits of exercise on mental health, but here is a good reminder: https://bit.ly/2BlaQsY
  • Socialize - decompress with your colleagues, eat lunch in the lounge, spend time with "non-teacher" friends
  • Practice the 80/20 rule: https://bit.ly/2E1EhTe
  • Surround yourself with postiveness!  Follow a positive quote page on instagram, print out some positive quotes and tape on your mirror or in your classroom, take a minute to write down a positive moment or success in your classroom
  • Take a walk - we work in a beautiful part of Riverside, take a minute to walk down Victoria Ave. after school
  • Read or listen to an audio book  - Help your overactive brain focus on something other than school
  • Make a list - When you feel overwhelmed make a list of the all of the things... and then prioritize
  • Express gratitude daily: https://bit.ly/2In1Vcp
  • SLEEP - Sleep is one of the most important ways we can manage or anxiety and stress.  Get at least 8 hours and turn off TV, devices and distractions at least 30-45 minutes before you want to fall asleep.
