Week 36

Great Things We Noticed:

  • Sixth Grade Teachers working really hard on Promotion!
  • PBIS Team working to get things ready for the fall!
  • Angelica and Jennifer continuing to provide services to our students and providing resources to our families!
  • Sped Team tackling IEP's virtually!

Classroom Pack Up

In order to make sure we are providing a safe and healthy environment, staff must:
  • “Stay in Place” - only essential personnel will be permitted on campus (no additional family members or visitors)
  • “Maintain Your Space” - a minimum of 6 feet of social distance including classrooms, hallways and offices.
  • “Cover Your Face” - wear face coverings on campus and around other staff members

Preparations for Deep Cleaning

  • Clear the walls, windows, bulletin boards, and permanent cabinets of any butcher paper, borders, posters, etc.

  • Remove all personal items (especially those of value) which may include: frames, rugs, plants, all other decorations.

  • Clear student desks/tables inside and out.  Place student items in the white paper bags provided to your site by Maintenance and Operations. Fold over and staple closed. Write the students name on the bag. (Please let Carrie or I know if you need assistance with this.)

  • Clear the surface of the teacher desk.  Items may be left inside over the summer.  Only the exterior of teacher desks will be cleaned. Clear all surfaces of bookcases and cabinets. All accessible horizontal and vertical surfaces will be cleaned and sanitized.

  • Clear all hanging items from the ceilings.

  • Unplug and remove all personal equipment in classrooms e.g. refrigerators, microwaves, etc.

  • Please do not cover or tarp off any furniture or technology. These items need to be accessible in order to thoroughly clean and sanitize the classroom.
  • Communicate any repairs that need to be made in the classroom to the site administrator. Please make arrangements with the site custodian to have broken items or furniture disposed of properly.

Carrie and I will have optional office hours this week to answer any questions. Look for the calendar invite.

Week 35

Thank You For Your Hard Work , Transparent Cartoon, Free Cliparts ...

Great Things We Noticed:

  • Mr. Sheffield and Ms. Lasak stretching their technology wings and FLYING!
  • Grade level meetings - We love seeing you!
  • Your continued efforts to REACH EVERY STUDENT!
  • Erin Masi's new baby!  Welcome to the world Elliot Michael!
  • Hillery using EPIC to read with her students!
  • Becky reading her kids a book and then having them take the AR quiz.

Nuts and Bolts:

  • Please update us on your status by using the Google Slide Deck we created.  You can find it HERE.  The new slides start on #70!
  • ILE has been posting short PD on their YouTube channel - Check them out HERE!
  • Watch for more information regarding referring students to Summer Camp.  This will be in the distance learning model and probably focused on MATH.
  • 5/22 is the last day of distance learning per the MOU.  Your Google Classrooms can stay "live" if you choose to provide the existing resources for students throughout the summer.  Our digital platforms like Lexia and Epic should be available through the summer as well.
  • May 26-28 may be good days to schedule those closure activities we discussed... End of the year awards or fun activities for the end of the year.
  • If you were planning on a performance... consider sending the songs out for students to sing at home, and consider sending the choreography for them to learn.
  • Please note there have been conversations regarding retention due to the closure in some parent/community forums.  If a parent asks you about retention remind them we have a board policy that we will follow and send them our way.
  • Here is fun activity for FlipGrid "Flat Teacher": http://www.thatteachingspark.com/
  • During a Google Meet, use Ctrl D to unmute.

Week 34

How to Show Appreciation to Your Staff and Colleagues | Grammarly

The Great Thing We Notice Every Day

YOU.
We notice you come early and stay late.
We notice you try new things and strengthen your practice.
We notice you SEE your students and pay attention to their needs.
We notice you lift your colleagues with encouragement and compassion.
We notice your dedication to our school and families.
We notice you and all of the things you do to make Hawthorne a great place to work, teach and learn.
And we appreciate you, each and every day.

We can't be with you to show our appreciation this week or next... BUT think of this blogpost a giant IOU, because WE OWE YOU for your flexibility and resilience.

This has been hard and weird and crazy... and you have handled it with grace and patience and love.

So we got you.
When we get back... we will celebrate you.
But, until then...
We appreciate you from afar and send our gratitude to you through cyberspace.
Have a great week!

Carrie and Longi
