• EVERYONE needs to join the "Staff" Google Classroom - Please do this by Monday.
  
• If you get sick to the point you cannot attend to your distance learning - please let us know.  The district has a limited number of substitute distance learning teachers.  (Also, we care about you and want to know when you are sick!) 
• I will share the RUSD Wellness offerings page with you - watch for it in your email.  I encourage you to check it out! 
• Distance Learning Monitoring Sheet for the week of 4/20 is due MONDAY by 9:00am.  Link was mailed out and posted in our classroom. 
• Grade Level Meetings are coming up over the next few weeks - Consider the following questions: 
• Would you like to celebrate students for the Months of April and May?
• If so, what might those celebrations look like?
• What about our traditional "end of the year" awards?

Google Meets

• Use to go over assignments for the week
• Use to read stories
• When presenting, use one device to present and another device to be in the meeting so that you can see the chats and students can still see you

• Create a checklist for students (example from Judid)

Nuts and Bolts: 

• We have a limited amount of devices at Hawthorne for students.  If you have a student that does not have a device, please email Longi or Carrie to arrange device distribution.  Do not cascade this message to all parents - only if they have asked or have stated they were not able to go to the Device Distribution last week. 
• If you haven't been able to connect with a student over email, Class Dojo or Remind - consider sending an old fashioned letter.  If you have a template or example of a letter you have sent please send it to us and we will place in the shared drive. 
• IEP meetings are being scheduled starting NEXT WEEK.  If you are unable to attend an IEP for one of your students please reach out to the SPED Team right away so they can find someone else or reschedule as needed. 
• If you have not already started, please keep a log or table of the students that engage in your distance learning activities.  This will help us keep track of students and help determine who we still need to track down.

Focus: 

Don't forget while designing customization for your Google Classroom Lessons that we are and AVID school and you can incorporate some AVID strategies into your distance learning.  Your Elementary Foundations book is a great resource (if you have it at home) and here are some ideas for how to "AVID-IZE" your Google Classroom:

The Harvard Business Review had a great article on how to remain productive when facing uncertain times. They suggested following these suggestions to stay focused and productive:

• Open your eyes to all options both present and future.
• When threatened with unproductive uncertainty, we may become so focused on the immediate situation that we overlook the broader possibilities.
• Think in Terms of Probabilities, not Binary Outcomes.
• During times of unproductive uncertainty, we often get stuck imagining extreme either/or outcomes. Innovators who are adept at managing uncertainty think in terms of probabilities instead.
• Remember That Possibilities Always Exist
• Victor Frankl said: “Everything can be taken from a [person] but one thing: the last of human freedoms — to choose one’s attitude in a given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” The opportunity to exercise that freedom is available to all of us — and it is key to finding a way forward in uncertain times.
