Week 8

Great Things We Noticed:

  • Student of the Month presentations!
  • Steve using Jam Board with his students!
  • Taking time to get together and share ideas with each other, even virtually!

Nuts and Bolts:

Focus:

Setting a morning and afternoon routine is one way to create a sense of "structure" during distance learning.  Routines are useful for us as they help us organize, plan and predict our days and nights.  We have spoken about how setting routines help us start up and close down our day.  They help us protect our personal time and help us stay focused during our work time.

Consider the following when setting your morning and afternoon routines:
1.  Schedule breaks into your day that mirror the school schedule (as much as possible).
2.  End your workday with a routine that contains a "transition".  Consider going on a walk, doing a short meditation or reading a book.
3.  Try to refrain from using electronics during your morning and afternoon routines, you spend enough time on the device during your work day.
4.  Close your day with an emotional check in or reflection on your day.  Then do your best to transition out of work mode and into personal time mode.

If you have not established particular routines to transition in and out of your work day, set a few and try them for a few weeks.

Dr. Hansen's Call to Action:

Common RUSD Goal: To create inclusive and equitable learning environments for all

Our Call to Action:

  1. Continue to reflect on your own mindset regarding race and privilege.

  2. Begin to dismantle inequities for all students and staff (policies, practices, procedures).

  3. Listen to the voices of students, families, and employees (what are their stories?).

  4. Go out and ACT NOW!

Join us in a 21 day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge! Longi and I will be spending the next 21 days reading, listening, watching, noticing, connecting, engaging acting, reflecting and staying inspired to do one action each day to further our understanding of power, privilege, supremacy, oppression and equity.
