- Hispanic Heritage Month
- Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.

Focus:
Setting a morning and afternoon routine is one way to create a sense of "structure" during distance learning. Routines are useful for us as they help us organize, plan and predict our days and nights. We have spoken about how setting routines help us start up and close down our day. They help us protect our personal time and help us stay focused during our work time.
Consider the following when setting your morning and afternoon routines:
1. Schedule breaks into your day that mirror the school schedule (as much as possible).
2. End your workday with a routine that contains a "transition". Consider going on a walk, doing a short meditation or reading a book.
3. Try to refrain from using electronics during your morning and afternoon routines, you spend enough time on the device during your work day.
4. Close your day with an emotional check in or reflection on your day. Then do your best to transition out of work mode and into personal time mode.
If you have not established particular routines to transition in and out of your work day, set a few and try them for a few weeks.
Dr. Hansen's Call to Action:
Common RUSD Goal: To create inclusive and equitable learning environments for all
Our Call to Action:
Continue to reflect on your own mindset regarding race and privilege.
Begin to dismantle inequities for all students and staff (policies, practices, procedures).
Listen to the voices of students, families, and employees (what are their stories?).

Join us in a 21 day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge!
