Week 3

Great Things We Noticed:

  • Kindergarten Teachers working hard to create math experiences for their student.... and showing perseverance when the tape won't stick (Morgan)!
  • A staff that is kind, supportive, flexible and resilient!
  • Back to School Night - Parents and students were engaged, supportive and happy to be at Hawthorne!  Thank you for making the night so special!
  • Several teachers have the courage to do a community circle with their families on Back to School Night!
  • Carol OK... she makes the garden an experience for her students, works to provide that experience for all students and exercises as much patience as humanly possible throughout the week... THANK YOU!
  • Tina Sumerford starting a student leadership group for our 5th and 6th graders!
  • Teams creating posters that clarify core values and goals for the year!

Nuts and Bolts:

  • Please make sure you wear you name badges  - If you have IA's please ask them to wear their badges while on campus.
  • Team Leaders - if you have not already, please send Longi or I your "master schedule" for your grade level
  • Student Council is starting at HAWTHORNE!! Our 5th and 6th grade students will have an opportunity to learn leadership skills and become socially engaged contributors - Please see Tina Sumerford if you have questions
  • 9/07/18: DIBELS Beginning of Year Data Entry Due in DIBELS.Net
  • REEF Grant Announcement Riverside Educational Enrichment Foundation (REEF) Grants are available!  Application deadline is Friday, September 14, recipients are announced Friday, October 19.  Grant applications are on our website www.reef4rusd.org
  • Longi and I will be completing out discipline talks next week - we apologize for the amount of time these are taking and will be sending out a new schedule by Monday afternoon.  We do believe that this format is more valuable than a mass assembly and have really enjoyed being in your classrooms!

Focus:

This week... as the "honeymoon" period starts to fade.... remember your why and your who.  I appreciate the hard work you do and your desire to prefect your practice.  I notice you working to build strong, lasting relationships with your students.  I know the parents that attended our Back to School night left feeling like their students were in good hands, that their students would grow and learn and be safe this year and they appreciated you and the work you do.
